Stefan is an Estonian singer-songwriter
Stefan won four awards at the 2023 Estonian Music Awards: Male Artist of the Year, Pop Artist of the Year, Song of the Year (Hope), and Artist of the Year (voted by the public). These accolades demonstrate Stefan's success in the music industry and his growing popularity over the past year.
He was born on December 24th, 1997, in the southern town of Viljandi, but now resides in Tallinn. His parents are both from Armenia.
He started singing and learning violin early, but his big break came in 2018 when he finished third in Estonia’s Eurovision selection, Eesti Laul, as part of the duo VAJÉ with the song ‘Laura (Walk with Me).’ He followed this up with another 3rd place in Eesti Laul in 2019, this time solo with the song ‘Without You.’ In 2020, he once again made the finals of Eesti Laul with the song ‘By My Side’ and later that year won the very first season of The Masked Singer Estonia as ‘Aries.’ Despite spending a good portion of 2020 in a ram costume, he was also named the country’s Sexiest Man soon afterward. In 2021, he collaborated with Estonian singer Liis Lemsalu on the song ‘Doomino’ which became the most-played song of the year on local airwaves.
Stefan to represented Estonia at Eurovision Song Contest 2022 with the song Hope
‘Hope’ was written by Stefan and long-time collaborator Karl-Ander Reismann. The lyrics are a universal rallying call amongst the chaos of the modern world not to lose hope. It is Stefan’s own hope that despite the bleak political times we live in, as well as the harsh reality of life in a pandemic, we all keep our hopes alive for a better future. The song's distinctive musical style was inspired by Italian composer Ennio Morricone’s classic spaghetti western soundtracks, and the film clip to the song was shot in Spain’s Tabernas Desert — the same location where Clint Eastwood's iconic ‘The Good, The Bad & The Ugly’ was filmed.
